Have YOU heard? January 17
Today is National Hot Buttered Rum Day! Now that’s something to get “steamed” up about! Did you know this toasty drink was a Colonial American favorite? The Pilgrims even brought rum to the New World because they thought it would help prevent scurvy. Talk about a “spirit-ed” approach to healthcare!
And speaking of spirits being lifted, on this day in 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette was unveiled at the General Motors Motorama! The first models only came in Polo White with red interiors. I guess you could say they really “car-ved” out their own style! The price tag? A whopping $3,498!
Birthday alert! The legendary Betty White would have turned 102 today! Here’s something that’ll make you giggle – her first job in entertainment was playing a phone operator… but she didn’t even own a phone! Talk about “dialing” up the irony! She held the record for the longest TV career of any entertainer – now that’s what I call “golden,” girl!
And here’s something to “kid” about – it’s Kid Inventors’ Day! Celebrating young inventors like Frank Epperson, who accidentally invented the Popsicle at age 11 by leaving a drink with a stirring stick outside on a cold night. Talk about a “cool” discovery!
